The truth is, there is no great “secret” to losing weight and keeping it off. In fact, successful and long-term weight loss has a very simple formula: 1. Regular exercise 2. A balanced diet 3. Plenty of pure water 4. Occasional detox 5. Health supplements for additional support, as required. Why is exercise important? Have you ever heard the expression “use it or lose it”? Well, it certainly holds true for keeping your body in good working order. If you don't use your body regularly, you will notice that it will gradually deteriorate. For example, your muscles will become flabby and weak, your heart and lungs won't function efficiently and your joints will be stiff and more easily injured. Our bodies were meant to move and actually crave exercise. Not only is it important for physical fitness, it also helps to reduce the risk of disease, such as heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes. Of course, it can also improve your appearance and delay the aging process! Taking regular exercising will help you to maintain your health, strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. It will certainly help you to get toned, lose weight and keep it off. What is a balanced diet and why is it important? Broadly speaking, eating a balanced diet means routinely choosing a wide variety of foods from all the food groups - subject, of course to any dietary restrictions, such as dairy allergies, gluten intolerance or vegetarian and vegan lifestyles etc. It also means eating certain foodstuffs and drinking certain beverages in moderation, namely saturated fats, trans fats, cholesterol, refined sugar, salt and alcohol. The primary aim is to ensure that you are getting all of the nutrients you need for optimum health at the recommended levels. A balanced diet contributes to making sure that the body gets the essential nutrients (including protein, fibre, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals) it needs to sustain energy levels, protect the body from and fight off disease, carry out physiological processes, promote overall health and maintain a healthy weight. A well-balanced diet also includes drinking enough water to replenish that which is lost throughout the day through normal bodily processes such as sweating, breathing and waste elimination. Drinking pure (filtered) water, wherever possible, is preferable to avoid toxic build-up in the body, which can result from the contaminants (such as chlorine, lead and nitrates) that are present in tap water. What are the potential benefits of full body cleanse and detox? Even for the most health conscious among us, and those who do everything right, it is likely that toxins will build up in our bodies over time. Unfortunately, this is largely as a result of the ever-increasing level of toxins in the food we eat, the air we breath, the water we drink and even the environment we live in. For example, did you know that there is such a thing as indoor pollution? This originates mainly from the out gassing of chemicals from carpets, furniture, electrical equipment and household chemicals. Formaldehyde, for example, is a common source of indoor pollution. It is a colourless, pungent-smelling gas, which is used extensively by industry to manufacture building materials and household products. In the home, the following can be sources of formaldehyde: building materials (especially pressed wood products) smoking gas stoves nail polish new carpets glues foam insulation paints and varnishes. Formaldehyde can cause watery and burning eyes, burning sensations in the throat, nausea and breathing difficulties (high levels can trigger asthma attacks). Studies have shown that this gas can cause cancer in animals. This is just one of the many pollutants in our home. Occassional detox of the body can therefore offer our detoxification systems some additional support, when toxin levels get too high. For those trying to lose weight, detox can be particularly helpful as most programmes involve avoiding food and drink with high fat and sugar content, drinking plenty of pure water and focussing on fruit and vegetables (particularly superfoods) that are naturally low in fat and calories, yet high in nutrients. How can health supplements offer additional support? As with detox (described above), sometimes our bodies can benefit from additional support. In this modern age of processed foods and chemically enhanced farming methods, even a balanced diet is unlikely to supply your body with the required level of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients required. Not only do long-distance transportation and long shelf lives affect the nutrient content of food, but cooking destroys almost all of the nutrients and digestive enzymes  naturally present in them. Even living and raw foods don’t have the nutrient content that they once did, as a result of depleted soil. For those of us trying to lose weight and keep it off, certain herbal and other health foods and food form supplements can support sensible weight management plans. Not least, they can help to ensure that nutrient and calorie intake remains at a safe level, during times of limited food choice.   0845 094 3627
